Plots, van de ene dag op de andere, is het zover:
De vogels hebben de lente in het bloed.
Tot afgelopen zaterdag was het een behoorlijk vredevol samenleven op de vogelvoederplaats. OK, af en toe werd er – vooral tussen soortgenoten – even gekibbeld, maar vaak zaten er tot vijftien vink-achtigen op de grond, en hingen er meer dan een handvol mezen aan de vetbollen. En dat allemaal zonder dat er ruzie werd gemaakt.
Maar dat is nu dus voorbij.
Vanaf zondag hing er plots een kibbelsfeer rond de voederplek.
Merelman-zonder-wit-pluimpje kon merelman-met-wit-pluimpje niet meer verdragen, maar joeg bovendien ook merelvrouw de haag in.
Roodborstje hield zich niet meer bezig met zaadjes pikken, maar enkel met het wegjagen van wie er dichter dan twee meter in zijn (haar?) buurt kwam.
Koolmees kon nog net verdragen dat pimpelmees en zwarte mees aan de bollen kwamen hangen, maar owee als andere koolmees hetzelfde probeerde.
Alleen de Turkse tortels, die blijven als trouw koppel steeds met zijn tweetjes de voederplek bezoeken…
Spring is in the air!
Suddenly, it happened… The birds on my birds feeding spot realized that spring is in the air!
Until saturday, there was a very peaceful coexistence on the feeding spot. OK, birds of the same species would be fighting sometimes, but quite often we had 10 finches on the ground, and more than a handful of tits hanging on those bird cakes.
But that seems to be all over now.
Since last sunday, an atmosphere of war has come.
He-blackbird-without-white-feather can’t stand he-blackbird-with-white-feather any longer, but he’s also chasing she-blackbird.
The robin hasn’t got a free minute to eat, because all he (she?) is doing is keeping watch that no other bird is in his perimeter.
The great tit will allow the blue tit and the coal tit to feed, but doesn’t allow another great tit to come any nearer.
Only that loving couple of collared doves, it’s as always the two of them that comes to our garden…
De wens is de vader van de gedachten zeggen ze wel eens. maar voor mij mag de lente inzetten.
Het lijkt wel of het elk jaar langer duurt voordat de lente begint, en hier fluisteren de vogels het ook!
What a beautiful picture! It is so awesome. Poor little robin. I think the birds do know spring is near, time to get busy and fill up on good food so they’ll be ready to raise their young. Is that a red twig dogwood or J. maple? And what types of birds are they? So pretty!
@Tina: it’s a Cornus alba, and I think that’s called red twig dogwood or red barked dogwood.
Those birds are tits: You see a blue tit to the left and behind the bird cakes, and in great tit in front.
Misschien een naiëve gedachte van mij: Hoe langer de winter duurt, hoe langer we zullen genieten van de lente en de zomer. Keer op keer heb ik het mis, misschien dit jaar eens een keertje niet.
Daar hoeven we niet aan te twijfelen volgens mij….
The temperatures have risen in the north west of England over the last few days too Anne. We have great tits, blue tits, and robins too visiting the garden regularly. It’s great fun to watch their antics. I often wonder whether they watch us
From the warm room inside I also like to watch the various birds on the feeder here. I often think it is more enjoyable than watching TV.
