Vorig jaar bloeide de mirabelle-pruim al half februari.

Ik keek nu dan ook al wekenlang uit naar die bloei, maar er was nog niets te zien.  Tot gisterochtend: toen ik naar het kippenhok liep om de kippen te voeren, merkte ik dat de eerste bloempjes openkwamen.

Maar de verrassing was nog groter toen ik vanavond van mijn werk thuis kwam.  Ik liep opnieuw de tuin in, en dit keer zag ik die pruimenboom al van ver staan: helemaal overdekt met witte bloesempjes.

De boom die gewoonlijk de mirabelle in bloei volgt, is de kerspruim (Prunus cerasifera) – vorig jaar was die een dag of tien later.  Maar dit jaar laat die niet zo lang op zich wachten: ook die heeft zijn eerste bloempjes al.

De derde in de rij, de sleedoorn (Prunus spinosa) is de derde in de rij (vorig jaar in bloei in de tweede week van maart), maar die houdt voorlopig zijn knoppen nog goed gesloten…

Spring at last!

Last year, my wild plum was blooming already around mid-February. This year I have been looking forwards to those blossoms for weeks, but nothing happened.

Until yesterday in the morning: when I walked to the henhouse to feed the chickens, I discovered a few single flowers.
But a bigger surprise was waiting when I came back home from work: when I went into the garden, I saw immediately that the plumtree was covered with white blossoms.

The second blossoming tree usually is the cherry plum. Last year he was one week behind the wild plum, but this year, he doesn’t keep me waiting so long: on this tree too, I found the first blossoms yesterday.

The third in the row, is often the sloe (Prunus spinosa) – last year he was blooming in the second week of March, but until now his buds are still firmly closed… Maybe around Easter…
