Het weerbericht had het nog niet voorspeld, maar toen ik vanmorgen in het halfdonker de kippen ging voeren, zag het gras toch verdacht wit.
En inderdaad, onderweg naar mijn werk werd bij de opkomende zon duidelijk wat ik al vermoedde: aan de grond had het vannacht duidelijk wat gevroren.
Ik hoop dus vanavond nog even de tuin in te kunnen om te zien wat dat teweeg heeft gebracht. Gggggrrrr… Ik had die butternut-pompoenen dus beter toch maandag geoogst!
It wasn’t really promised yet, but when I went outside to feed the chickens this morning, the lawn looked suspiciously white.
Indeed, although the weatherforecast only predicted frost for the saturdaynight, we definitely had our first groundfrost last night.
It was too dark before going to work, so I hope I’ll be home a bit early tonight, to have a look at what the cold did to my garden.
(I really should have harvested my butternut squashes last monday…)
it’s almost time for frost in my part of north carolina, too. i’m not particularly looking forward to it, but it will be nice to put the garden to bed and plan for next spring. happy gardening to you, daricia
